What is the life expectancy of the Roof Drain De-Icing Systems product?

The primary product of Roof Drain De-Icing Systems is the 0525F10000 Frame, galvanized steel, and the 3625R14 Ray, aluminum.  There are no moving parts to wear leaving only the base material's (galv. steel & aluminum) resistance to the atmospheric elements to consider.  These base metals are the typical materials of trade in the HVAC systems industry as mounted on building roofs.  The RDDS product life is therefore expected to be decades.

The other items inclusive of a complete and operating system are the EASY HEAT  SR-Trace cable and moisture/temperature controllers available from numerous electrical contractors amd wholesale houses.  The cable and control products carry the manufacturer's warranty.

WHAT IS ROOF DRAIN DE-ICING SYSTEMS?

RDDS manufacturers a jig that holds self-regulating EASY HEAT SR-Trace cable in a specific pattern to facilitate the prevention of ice damming on both commercial and residential roof systems.  When properly installed and operated, this product creates a path for snow or ice melt water to the ground or other drainage system.

WHO SHOULD INSTALL THE JIG?

Any professional roofer working in conjunction with a qualified electrician.  The electrician will get electrical power to the drain site as well as assure that cable lengths and connections meet codes and manufacturer's recommendations.

In cases where the power has already been provided at the drain site and 120-Volt PSR-Trace cables are to be utilized it may be possible for the building owner to install a RDDS de-Icing system.

HOW DO I DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF CABLE TO USE?

RDDS provides a calculation sheet for each jig type (See "Installation Type - Cable Length?) on this web site.  You can also call or e-mail us for assistance.

WHAT TOOLS DO I NEED FOR INSTALLATION?

Simple had tools such as an adjustable wrench, 4" angle grinder with cut off wheel and a tape measure.

The Starter Kit may require no additional tools for the installation unless a grinder with cut-off wheel is required to shorten one or more 3625R14 Rays.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE ROOD DRAIN DE-ICING SYSTEM?

1.  Lightweight and small components allow easy transport to the roof via ladder, hoist rope or through roof acess hatches.

2.  Inexpensive to own and operate in most cases.  Cheap insurance compared to damage by roof leaks.

3.  Does NOT attach to the roofing material on a flat roof and therefore does not void any manufacturer's warranty.

4.  Uses standard EASY HEAT SR-Trace Heat Cable.  SR-Trace has decades of proven relability in roof and gutter exposure.

5.  Easy to customize and may be color coordinated to roofing system.
